Superconducting PrOs4Sb12: a thermal conductivity study

The superconducting state of the heavy fermion PrOs4Sb12 is studied by heat transport measurements on a highly homogeneous single crystal exhibiting only one transition peak in the specific heat. The field and temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity confirm multiband superconductivity and point to fully open gaps on the whole Fermi surface.     

Study of structural and electronic transport properties of Ce-doped LaMnO3

The structural and electronic transport properties of La_1−x Ce _x MnO₃ (x=0.0–1.0) have been studied. All the samples exhibit orthorhombic crystal symmetry and the unit cell volume decreases with Ce doping. They also make a metal-insulator transition (MIT) and transition temperature increases with increase in Ce concentration up to 50% doping. The system La_0.5Ce_0.5MnO₃ also exhibits MIT instead of charge-ordered state as observed in the hole doped systems of the same composition.     

Description of complementary actions of mineral and organic additives in thermoplastic polymer composites by Flame Retardancy Index

This work visualizes the complementary actions of organic and mineral additives in model thermoplastic polymer composites in terms of Flame Retardancy Index (FRI). Thermal and flame retardancy behaviors of ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) composites containing calcium carbonate (CC) mineral and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) organic additives were studied varying composition of additives in the 80/20 EVA/(xCC + (20 ? x)APP) composites with x denoting 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the onset temperature of composites and the remaining residue were increased by combination of APP and CC, while cone calorimetry results were indicative of a promising flame retardancy performance at a given composition of APP and CC. Based on FRI values, we made distinguished samples from flame retardancy performance viewpoint, where the best flame retardancy was obtained by combination of 15 wt% APP and 5 wt% CC, as reflected in FRI value of 3.08. By contrast, samples containing only APP or CC revealed low resistance against flame, as signaled by FRI values of 0.99 and 0.89, respectively. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was made on remaining residue collected at the end of cone calorimetry measurements. Moreover, Raman analysis confirmed barrier effect of flame retardancy for EVA/(5APP + 15CC) sample, featured by a higher graphitization level as well as a thicker yet more homogenous char layer. Mechanical behavior analysis of composites revealed an acceptable level of properties, particularly high elongation at break, which was almost independent of formulation. However, a minor loss in yield stress was observed, especially for EVA(10CC + 10APP) sample.     

Two connected inverse spectral transforms

We establish a transformation which connects the potentials of the one-dimensional Dirac and Klein-Gordon operators. This transformation links the solutions of the nonlinear evolution equations solvable by means of the two inverse spectral transforms which use the Dirac and Klein-Gordon direct and inverse spectral problems.     

Second order linear sequence subgroups in finite fields—II

In previous papers [O.J. Brison, J.E. Nogueira, Linear recurring sequence subgroups in finite fields, Finite Fields Appl. 9 (2003) 413–422; O.J. Brison, J.E. Nogueira, Second order linear sequence subgroups in finite fields, Finite Fields Appl. 14 (2008) 277–290] the authors investigated when, and how, a multiplicative subgroup of a finite field can be written, without repetition, as a cyclically-closed second order recurring sequence. Here, the earlier results are extended for sequences with certain restricted periods.     

Multiband superconductivity in the heavy fermion compound PrOs4Sb12

The thermal conductivity of the heavy fermion superconductor Pr(Os(4)Sb(12) was measured down to T(c)/40 throughout the vortex state. At lowest temperatures and for magnetic fields H approximately 0.07H(c2), already 40% of the normal state thermal conductivity is restored. This behavior (similar to that observed in MgB2) is a clear signature of multiband superconductivity in this compound.
